Bio

Would Robots are a band born out of a serendipitous collision of soulful magnetism and
post-punk angst. Fronted by enigmatic singer-songwriter Diogo Rosa, whose velvet voice
evokes warmth and vulnerability, the band combines melodic melancholia with uplifting
grooves in a uniquely captivating style.
Andy Phillips takes the helm on bass guitar, while also sharing song writing and lead vocal
duties. In stark contrast to Rosa’s pop-rock approach, Phillips’ songwriting focuses on
creating innovative grooves and boundary-pushing vocal lines, carving out a distinct and
experimental edge.
Andy Norcott is a self-taught guitarist whose roots in blues and improvisation have evolved
into a dynamic style, blending influences from jazz, Americana and indie music.
Driving the rhythm on drums is Jerry Baker, whose experience spans rock, punk, and indie
bands. Baker’s drumming combines the raw power of heavy rock with the intricate nuances
of jazz and blues.
Norcott and Phillips had been collaborating for years, honing their craft through writing
sessions, jam nights and performances at local open mics. The spark that ignited the
creation of Would Robots began when Rosa reached out to explore the idea of a new
project. With Baker joining shortly after, the lineup was complete, and in August 2024,
Would Robots officially came to life.
A striking musical paradox of beauty and despair, Would Robots embody the sound of light
breaking through darkness.
Fans of Joy Division, The Cure and Interpol will appreciate the atmospheric intensity of
Would Robots, while Rosa’s melodic, atmospheric intensity will appeal to those drawn to
the emotive delivery of George Micheal and Sam Smith.
Exploring themes including the light and darkness of love, dancing away insecurities, the
search for greener grass and the fear and excitement of bluffing to gain, Would Robots live
set will resonate with the lost and found.
